In a significant development for college football recruiting, five-star edge rusher Jamonta Waller has flipped his commitment from the Florida Gators to the Auburn Tigers. Waller, a standout from Picayune Memorial High School in Mississippi, had initially committed to Florida in June 2023, choosing the Gators over programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, and Tennessee.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 225 pounds, Waller is ranked as the No. 5 edge rusher and the No. 29 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. His junior season was particularly impressive, recording 106 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
Waller’s decision to join Auburn marks the third five-star commitment for the Tigers’ 2024 class, joining wide receiver Perry Thompson and linebacker Demarcus Riddick. This commitment underscores Auburn’s growing momentum in recruiting under head coach Hugh Freeze.
The timing of Waller’s flip coincided with Auburn’s decisive victory over Arkansas, a game that showcased the Tigers’ prowess on both offense and defense. This win, combined with strategic recruiting efforts, positions Auburn as a formidable contender in the upcoming seasons.
Waller’s commitment is expected to have a significant impact on Auburn’s defensive lineup, bringing a combination of speed, power, and athleticism to the edge position. His versatility and high motor make him a valuable asset as the Tigers continue to build a competitive team for the future.
