NASCAR has officially announced a significant change in its event lineup: The Clash, an annual exhibition race, will move from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, starting February 2, 2025.
This decision marks a historic return to Bowman Gray Stadium, a quarter-mile track that last hosted a NASCAR Cup Series race in 1971. Known as “The Madhouse,” the stadium has a storied legacy in NASCAR history, being the sport’s first weekly racetrack since 1949.
In preparation for The Clash, significant upgrades are underway at the stadium. These include the installation of a new Musco lighting system to enhance track visibility and accommodate nationally televised events, as well as the addition of SAFER barriers and updated catch fences to meet modern safety standards.
NASCAR’s commitment to Bowman Gray Stadium extends beyond this event. In March 2024, NASCAR assumed management of the stadium’s racing operations through a lease agreement with the City of Winston-Salem, set to run until December 2050. This move aims to preserve and enhance the venue’s rich racing heritage for future generations.
The relocation of The Clash to Bowman Gray Stadium not only honors NASCAR’s roots but also brings premier racing back to a venue deeply embedded in the sport’s history. Fans can look forward to an exciting event that blends tradition with modern racing advancements.
