State College, PA – In a shocking turn of events, the Penn State wrestling team and their manager were involved in a severe car accident late Thursday evening, causing concern across the community. The team, returning from a national competition, was traveling back to State College when the incident occurred on Route 322. According to initial reports from local authorities, the vehicle in which the team was traveling skidded off the road during adverse weather conditions, striking a guardrail.

The team’s head coach, Cael Sanderson, and other coaching staff members were not seriously injured, though several athletes sustained minor to moderate injuries. The manager of the wrestling program, who was also in the vehicle, is reported to be in stable condition after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

 

University officials have expressed their deep concern and support for all those involved. “Our thoughts are with our student-athletes and staff as we await further updates,” said Penn State Director of Athletics, Sandy Barbour. The team is expected to take some time off as they recover and undergo necessary medical evaluations.
