Penn State’s wrestling team showcased its unparalleled dominance by clinching its 12th NCAA Championship under head coach Cael Sanderson, marking the program’s 13th national title overall. The Nittany Lions amassed a record-breaking 177 points, surpassing their previous tournament high of 172.5 points set just last year.
A historic highlight of the tournament was Carter Starocci’s achievement as the first wrestler to secure five NCAA titles, a feat made possible by an eligibility waiver due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Penn State became only the second team in NCAA wrestling history to have 10 All-Americans in a single year, joining the 2001 Minnesota squad.
This championship marks Penn State’s fourth consecutive national title, the third such streak under Sanderson’s leadership. The Nittany Lions’ sustained excellence solidifies their status as a collegiate wrestling dynasty.
