Chase Briscoe’s 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season took an unexpected turn when he initially faced a significant post-race penalty following his strong fourth-place finish at the Daytona 500. NASCAR officials had cited modifications to the No. 19 car’s spoiler, resulting in a 100-point deduction, a four-race suspension for crew chief James Small, and a $100,000 fine for Joe Gibbs Racing. However, Briscoe and his team maintained their innocence and appealed the decision.
On March 5, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel ruled in favor of Briscoe and Joe Gibbs Racing, determining that the alleged modification was actually a byproduct of the installation process rather than an intentional rules violation. As a result, the penalties were completely rescinded, reinstating Briscoe’s points and placing him 15th in the standings instead of 40th.
Briscoe took to social media to celebrate, calling it the “biggest points day of my career” in a lighthearted post. He expressed gratitude to NASCAR for the appeals process and to his team for their hard work in defending their case. With his season back on track, Briscoe and the No. 19 team are now setting their sights on the upcoming Shriners Children’s 500 at Phoenix Raceway.
This reversal is a huge boost for Briscoe, who is in his first season with Joe Gibbs Racing after previously racing for Stewart-Haas Racing. Now, with the penalty behind him, he remains optimistic about making a strong playoff push in 2025
