
In a historic achievement, University of Kentucky guard Ortega Oweh has become the first player to win both the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award and the Midseason Wooden Award in the same season. This remarkable feat highlights Oweh’s exceptional skills and dominance on the court.
The Bob Cousy Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, honors the nation’s top point guard. The Midseason Wooden Award, bestowed by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, recognizes the top player in college basketball at the midpoint of the season. Oweh’s unprecedented sweep of these prestigious awards underscores his outstanding playmaking abilities, scoring prowess, and leadership.
A junior from Newark, New Jersey, Oweh has been instrumental in Kentucky’s success this season. He is averaging 18.5 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 48.5% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range. His impressive statistics and clutch performances have earned him widespread recognition.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari praised Oweh’s dedication, stating, “Ortega has worked tirelessly to develop his skills and become one of the top players in the country.
