In October 2022, Bubba Wallace, a driver for 23XI Racing, was suspended by NASCAR for one race following an incident during the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The controversy began when Wallace’s car was forced into the outside wall by Kyle Larson. In retaliation, Wallace intentionally spun Larson’s vehicle, causing it to collide with Christopher Bell’s car, which was also competing in the playoffs.
After the crash, Wallace approached Larson on the track and shoved him multiple times, despite officials’ attempts to intervene. NASCAR deemed these actions a “dangerous act” that intentionally put other competitors at risk, leading to Wallace’s suspension. Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that such behavior crossed the line and warranted disciplinary action.
Wallace expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging that his behavior did not align with the values of his team and partners. He apologized to NASCAR, fans, and those affected by the incident, emphasizing his intention to learn from the experience.
