The Houston Texans have traded five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Washington Commanders. In exchange, the Texans received Washington’s third-round and seventh-round picks in 2025, as well as second-round and fourth-round picks in the 2026 Draft.
Tunsil, who joined the Texans from the Miami Dolphins in 2019, has been a pivotal figure on Houston’s offensive line. His departure marks a significant shift for the Texans, especially considering their previous struggles with pass protection, having allowed 54 sacks in the prior season.
The trade aligns with the Texans’ strategy to revamp their roster, focusing on younger talent and financial flexibility. They’ve recently secured contract extensions for emerging stars like cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., aiming to build around promising players.
For the Commanders, acquiring Tunsil addresses a critical need for a reliable left tackle, offering stability and experience to their offensive line. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance their roster, which includes signing defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and cornerback Jonathan Jones, as well as re-signing linebacker Bobby Wagner.
Tunsil expressed understanding regarding the trade, acknowledging it as a business decision without harboring any ill feelings toward the Texans. He now looks forward to contributing to the Commanders’ success in the upcoming season.
