Collingwood coach Craig McRae has lauded new recruit Dan Houston following his standout performance against his former team, Port Adelaide. In the Magpies’ commanding 91-point victory at the MCG, Houston amassed 27 disposals and a game-high 10 intercept possessions, underscoring his impact in the defensive half.

Houston, a dual All-Australian halfback, joined Collingwood in October 2024 as part of a three-club trade involving Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast Suns. Despite previously stating in August that he would remain at Port Adelaide, Houston requested a trade to a Victorian club and eventually landed at Collingwood.

Reflecting on his transition to the Magpies, Houston expressed excitement about playing for the club he idolized growing up. He highlighted McRae’s supportive coaching style, noting, “He celebrates my strengths and what I’m good at. He’s a very strength-based coach.”

Houston’s addition has bolstered Collingwood’s defensive capabilities, with his versatility and composure contributing significantly to the team’s performance. The Magpies will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Friday night.
