FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucharest, underwent a significant transformation due to legal disputes over the club’s identity. In December 2014, Romania’s High Court ruled that the military-owned CSA Steaua București retained rights to the “Steaua” name, logo, and colors. This decision stemmed from a lawsuit by the Ministry of National Defense, asserting that the club’s military symbols were being used without authorization. Consequently, the private entity controlling the football team was prohibited from using these identifiers. In response, the club changed its name to FCSB and adopted a new logo in April 2017.
This legal dispute resulted in a split: CSA Steaua București relaunched its football department in 2017, competing in Romania’s Liga IV, while FCSB continued in Liga I under its new identity. The courts later ruled that CSA Steaua retained records from 1947 to 1998, while FCSB held records from 2003 to 2017.
In recent encounters, FCSB faced Manchester United in the Europa League. In January 2025, Manchester United secured a 2-0 victory, with goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo.
