In a major win for the Vancouver Canucks and their fans, star defenseman and team captain Quinn Hughes has signed a six-year contract extension worth $18.4 million. The deal ensures Hughes remains a key part of the Canucksโ future, locking in the 25-year-old through the 2030-31 NHL season.
Hughes, who recently captured the Norris Trophy as the NHLโs top defenseman, has been the cornerstone of the Canucksโ blue line since his debut. Known for his elite skating, vision, and leadership, he posted a career-high 92 points last season, leading all NHL defensemen in scoring.
In a statement, Hughes cited his belief in the teamโs direction and deep connection to the Vancouver community as key reasons for staying. โThis city has become my home,โ Hughes said. โI believe in what weโre building here. Weโre not done yet.โ
General Manager Patrik Allvin praised the signing, calling Hughes โthe heart of this teamโs coreโ and essential to their long-term success.
With this extension, the Canucks solidify their commitment to competing at the highest level โ and Hughes remains the face of that vision.
