In a significant boost to their football program, the University of Tennessee has secured a commitment from Faizon Brandon, the nation’s top-ranked player in the 2026 recruiting class. Brandon, a standout quarterback from Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, announced his decision on Saturday, choosing the Volunteers over other prestigious programs, including NC State, Alabama, and LSU.
Standing at 6-foot-3.5 and weighing 197 pounds, Brandon possesses a rare blend of size, athleticism, and a powerful arm. During his sophomore season, he threw for 3,026 yards, 36 touchdowns, and only three interceptions, leading Grimsley to a 13-1 record. His poise and confidence on the field have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greats.
According to 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins, Brandon’s attributes include “a rare blend of pocket-passer size and dual-threat athleticism to go along with a high-powered arm.” Ivins notes that Brandon is “just starting to scratch the surface of what he could be,” highlighting his potential for growth at the collegiate level.
Brandon’s commitment continues Tennessee’s trend of attracting elite quarterback talent under head coach Josh Heupel. Following the signings of Nico Iamaleava in 2023 and Jake Merklinger in 2024, and a verbal commitment from 2025 quarterback George MacIntyre, Brandon becomes the fourth consecutive five-star quarterback to choose the Volunteers.
This commitment not only enhances Tennessee’s future prospects but also signifies a shift in the college football recruiting landscape, with the Volunteers re-establishing themselves as a destination for top-tier talent.
