Netflix has officially announced the release of “The Underdog”, a heartfelt and highly anticipated documentary centered on the life and legacy of late Vancouver Canucks legend Trevor Linden. Slated for release on August 23, 2025, the film promises to be a deeply moving tribute to one of hockey’s most respected and beloved figures.

Linden, known for his leadership, grit, and community dedication, played 19 NHL seasons—most of them with the Canucks—earning the nickname “Captain Canuck.” The Underdog explores Linden’s journey from a small-town kid in Medicine Hat to a revered NHL icon, two-time All-Star, and captain who led Vancouver to the unforgettable 1994 Stanley Cup Final.

The documentary features never-before-seen footage, personal reflections from teammates and rivals, as well as intimate interviews with family, friends, and fans. It also sheds light on his post-retirement impact, including his work in player advocacy, philanthropy, and executive leadership.

“This isn’t just a hockey story—it’s a human story,” said a Netflix spokesperson. The Underdog is set to be an emotional and inspiring film that pays tribute to Trevor Linden’s lasting influence on the sport, the city of Vancouver, and the hearts of hockey fans worldwide.
