Seattle, WA — In a powerful demonstration of community leadership, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has invested $7.5 million to transform a historic property in Seattle into a modern shelter for homeless youth. The project aims to provide housing, support services, and educational resources to at-risk young people aged 16 to 24.
Raleigh, emerging as one of MLB’s brightest young stars, said the decision was deeply personal. “Seattle has supported me from day one,” he shared. “Now it’s my turn to give back, especially to those who need it most—our youth who don’t have a safe place to call home.”
The shelter, named “Safe Catch House,” will include dorm-style living quarters, mental health counseling, job training programs, and mentorship opportunities. Local officials and nonprofit leaders have praised Raleigh’s initiative as a much-needed step in addressing the growing homelessness crisis in the region.
Construction is set to begin later this year, with doors expected to open in mid-2026. Raleigh’s bold commitment marks a growing trend of athletes stepping up to tackle social issues—and it reinforces his role as both a sports leader and a civic role
model.
